This intermediate to advanced-level course for practicing licensed professionals investigates the role of nutrition in supporting patients with cancer at all stages of their care. Specific naturopathic treatment recommendations for specific cancer types will be outlined using evidence-informed medicine as well as empirical evidence from the instructors’ vast experience. Participants will learn the necessary research skills to assess oncology cases and cancer therapeutics to create a comprehensive integrative management plan. This course not only provides an understanding of clinically relevant knowledge, but endorses demonstration of comprehension, problem-solving, and the application of new concepts.
This course provides learners with the flexibility and convenience of online study. Learning is achieved in online learning modules consisting of readings, videos, PowerPoint presentations, quizzes, and problem-based learning techniques.
- Examine the evidence, safety and effectiveness of various cancer diets and therapies, including alternative diets
- Evaluate and identify nutritional needs of the oncology patient, including nutritional screening and assessment and conventional dietetic support
- Evaluate and identify pediatric oncology nutritional support
- Describe how to provide nutritional support and use functional foods for common side effects of conventional treatment and procedures
- Critically evaluate published research in the felid of integrative oncology.
