Course description
The Lab Testing Series is a new high-quality, evidence-informed webinar series designed to improve patient care by helping practitioners recognize clinical presentations, select appropriate tests, establish baselines, interpret lab tests, monitor treatment progress, explain test results, and further clinical hypotheses.
This foundational session focuses on core testing and specifically the application of hematology lab testing in clinical practice.
Learning Objectives:
  • Review the process of blood cell development
  • Understand the role of the CBC as it relates to overall health
  • Learn how iron, ferritin, folate and vitamin B12 are related to hematology
  • Contrast hematologic disorders
  • Review PT, INR, fibrinogen, and ESR

Miranda Wozniak, BSc, MD, FRCPC
Miranda obtained her medical degree from the University of Ottawa. After training for one year in family medicine she went on to complete her residency training in laboratory medicine at The Ottawa Hospital. She then obtained her FRCPC certificate in hematological pathology and joined LifeLabs as Hematology Discipline Head. She has also taken on several additional roles within the LifeLabs organization including Laboratory Director for the highest volume lab in the province and Deputy Ontario Medical Director. Dr. Wozniak further dedicates her time to laboratory quality improvement by serving as an IQMH laboratory assessor and as a member of the OAML Hematology Committee.
