Wellness manager in independent retail store

Job purpose:
The Wellness Manager selects, purchases, prices and promotes apothecary and body care products for retail sale to customers. Supervises ordering, receiving, stocking by replenishment buyers, receivers, and clerks to meet objectives for sales, margin, inventory turns, labour, and customer service.
Responsibilities:

Purchasing and Category Management
- Curate the apothecary and body care categories for optimal growth, sales, and customer needs
- Negotiate with suppliers for favourable prices, terms, quality, and delivery
- Place orders to ensure regular supply and adequate supply for promotional periods
- Purchase for promotions in accordance with the annual publishing calendar and inventory turns
- Determine pricing for items to achieve overall departmental margin
- Ensure accurate, up-to-date prices of all products in POS system, eCommerce site, and shelf tags
- Coordinate all credits, inventory checks, and invoices
- Analysis of categories to rationalize product for optimal growth
- Prepare reports for senior management as needed
Merchandising
- Plan and maintain attractive, fully stocked and rotated and faced categories and shelving
- Stock as time permits and give stocking priorities to clerks, MOD, and other support staff
- Ensure accurate, uniform, up-to-date department signs as needed<
- Ensure building and maintaining of end-caps and other in-store displays for products, according to established standards for appearance, variety and ease of shopping and stocking
- Provide product information to customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Provide assistance with special orders and other prompt, friendly, courteous customer service
Department Maintenance
- Coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers. See that unsellable items are properly disposed of. Maintain and keep accurate waste, shrink records.
- Ensure that apothecary and body care shelves, displays, aisles, and storage areas are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
- Coordinate and participate in inventory counts.
- Ensure maintenance of department equipment in working order. Advise Store Manager of equipment problems or needs.
Supervision
- Hire qualified applicants following established policy.
- Ensure on-the-job training.
- Conduct performance evaluations.
- Take corrective action as needed following established policy.
- Schedule hours for the department within the budget.
- Organize and attend department meetings.
Organizational Management
- Review financial reports of department performance with the Senior Management Team and take corrective action as needed to achieve category KPIs.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Store Manager.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
- Accredited Natural Health Practitioner (i.e. Naturopath, Certified Health Practitioner, Nutritionist, Dietician, Nutritional Sciences, Functional Medicine, Acupuncture)
- 2+ years purchasing experience
- 2+ years supervisory experience
- Previous retail work experience is an asset.
- Experience reading and analyzing financial statements and reports is an asset.
- Knowledge of Google Suite applications
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands
- Excellent communication skills
Working Conditions
- Retail environment, lifting up to 20kg
- Active tasks 55%, desk-based tasks 45%
- On-site in-person role in an urban retail environment
- Variable working hours with evening and weekend shifts required
